PASSO GIAU
The Giau Pass (Passo Giau), at 2,236 meters above sea level, is one of the most spectacular natural terraces in the Dolomites.
Here, the mountains are so close, the rocky profiles of the Averau, Nuvolau, and Lastoi de Formin dominate the scene, and the fresh air at high altitude offers a sense of freedom. In the distance, the entire Ampezzo valley and the Marmolada massif are just some of the areas you can admire.
The panoramic road leading to the pass—famous for its wide hairpin bends and breathtaking views—is a journey into the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, every curve is a snapshot, every stop a small moment to remember.
An amphitheater of Dolomite peaks that opens up 360°, perfect for those who love taking photos, relaxing in the sun, or setting out on a hike.
Numerous trails begin from the pass, suitable for both experienced hikers and those seeking a leisurely stroll immersed in nature. In summer, you can explore mountain huts, flower-filled meadows, and historic trails; In winter, however, the landscape transforms into a white expanse ideal for snowshoeing and ski mountaineering.
The local refuge offers traditional dishes and a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a break with a privileged view of the Dolomites.
Whether you’re looking for a romantic spot, a travel itinerary, or a pure nature experience, the Giau Pass will surprise you with its timeless beauty.
Unluckily the place can be you really crowded in high season and parking sometimes may be a problem, especially during the summer, so it’s worth considering reaching it early in the Morning.
